FALL 2021 HEALTH & WELLNESS PROGRAMS

FOOD AND MOOD

Skills to assist in lifestyle change, end cravings, improve mood and decrease anxiety.

  • Are you dealing with emotional eating or health concerns that would benefit from a lifestyle change?
  • Do you want to break old habits and replace them with new healthy ones?

Food and Mood is a 6-week program that focuses on positive coping skills, identifying emotional and stress eating, food and mood concepts and the health effects of imagery and relaxation response.

MEET THE FACILITATOR

Julia Swartz, MSW, LICSW, CEIS is the Clinical Director of Compass Medical Behavioral Health. Julia has over 25 years of clinical experience from a variety of settings including Early Intervention and Private Practice.  She specializes in treating “young families” as well as pregnant and post partum women.  In addition to offering play and family therapies, Ms. Swartz counsels couples, adults and elders.  She has intensive training with the Harvard School of Medicine’s Mind Body Institute and integrates stress management and cognitive behavioral techniques in treating depression and anxiety.  Ms. Swartz utilizes Personality Typing and effective communication in relationship building. She also facilitates the innovative Food and Mood groups for stress and emotional eaters and is committed to the integration of mental health and medicine.  Ms. Swartz has taught communication and relational skills to medical students and pediatricians both at the Harvard School of Medicine and through the Children’s Emotional Health Link.

Stress & Anxiety Management Program

Everyone has times of stress and upheaval in their lives. While difficult, we manage to get through them. When we find that we are feeling challenged to cope or our emotional reactions seem to get in the way, that is the time to seek a new skill set. Managing stressful anxiety is a skill that is learned, like using your first Smartphone. During this 5 week group, you will be given a toolbox of practical skills that will help you learn to better manage stress and anxiety.

MEET THE FACILITATOR

Grant Pike holds a Masters of Social Work from Simmons University with a focus on clinical and integrative medical practice.  He has presented at conferences and trainings in topics ranging from LGBTQ awareness to the complex care for undocumented minors and families in mental health.  Grant has been in the mental health field for over 15 years, within a wide range of care settings.  His focus for working with patients is through use of Internal Family Systems, CBT, DBT, Narrative Therapy, client-centered therapy.   He honors and incorporates each person’s unique experiences into their healing journey.
